About The Position

The Registered Nurse-Surgery will be responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of evidence-based nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age appropriate patient care. Implements evidence-based findings into practice and participates in research as appropriate.

Requirements

Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
Maintain current Healthcare Provider certification.
Maintain current Provider ACLS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
Maintain Provider for PEARS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder): Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred. Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred. Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN required.
Attends all hospital/nurse manager specified mandatory in-services.
Maintains competencies as identified in unit specific requirements.
Completion of self-evaluation. It is the incumbent's responsibility to submit to the nurse manager at annual evaluation time documentation to validate annual credentialing requirements.

Responsibilities

Works within the context of the surgical team to provide care to individuals before, during and after a surgical procedure.
Completes assessment of assigned patient’s condition, develops individual plan of care for patient.
Provide direct patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods.
Evaluates outcomes, consults with others as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
Promotes patient education and involves the patient and caregivers in the implementation of health goals.
Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities, including chart review as required.
Assures that department is survey-ready at all times.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
