About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient's responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with inter disciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient. The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients.

Requirements

  • BLS - Basic Life Support (Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • RN - Registered Nurse (Required)
  • Associates Degree
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Knowledge, ability, and competence in treating unit specific patient populations.
  • Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Competency in Microsoft® Windows.
  • One year of acute care experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Regularly assesses patient’s needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based nursing practice.
  • Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
  • Is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.

  • Demonstrates understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Assemblies the patient’s chart.
  • Completes and documents patient’s medical history.
  • Delivers pre-operative and discharge instructions in the manner best suited for the patient and family.
  • Ensures that current history and physical is on the chart, that the plan of care in the history and physical match surgical consent, and the surgical consent is signed by patient.
  • Ensures completion and documentation of necessary lab work, x-rays, and cardiograms for surgical patients and communicates necessary results to the surgeon and anesthesiologist in a timely manner.
  • Completes procedural checklist.
  • Initiates physician orders and completes necessary tasks to ensure that patient is safely prepared for surgery.
  • Participates in direct patient care.
  • Performs other clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with all established policies and procedures within the health system.
  • Practices within the scope of practice as designated by the state of licensure.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks and oversee completion of tasks by other members of the team.
  • Assists anesthesiologist in performing nerve blocks by ensuring proper site marking, completion of safety check list, signing of consent, and maintaining sterile field.
  • All other duties as assigned.
