About The Position

Nurses at Banner Health are empowered to build long, successful careers through excellent training. This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Banner Children’s Hospital at Desert, a state-of-the-art Level 1 Trauma Facility in Mesa, Arizona. The PICU specializes in providing the highest levels of care to pediatric patients with diverse medical and surgical needs, spanning from neonate to adult with a wide range of acuity and illness, including complex congenital heart, pulmonary, neurosurgical, renal, post-surgical, and traumatic injuries and disease processes. The unit consists of 24 beds and operates with a family-centered care model and an interdisciplinary team approach, including 24-hour Pediatric Intensivist coverage, Respiratory Therapists, Nutritionists, Case Management, Social Services, PT/OT, and Pharmacists. Dedicated Registered Nurses are actively involved in department shared leadership, quality/safety, and process improvement teams. Banner Desert Medical Center, located on an 80-acre campus, is one of Arizona's largest and most comprehensive hospitals, recognized by U.S. News and World Report. It features over 700 licensed beds, including more than 100 dedicated to children and 76 to the NICU, 33 operating rooms, and advanced technology like the da Vinci Surgical System. Banner Children's Hospital at Desert is a 200+ bed facility utilizing advanced technology such as iCare ICU monitoring and robotic surgery to provide high-quality, child-friendly, family-centered care, with facilities including a 76-bed NICU, a 24-bed PICU, six pediatric ORs, a 22-bed ED, and dedicated pediatric rehab, radiology, oncology, and hematology capabilities. Requirements

Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
BLS certification is required.
Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job.
Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting.
In a Home Health setting, team members must be able to operate personal vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
Auto insurance coverage is also required to be active and maintained.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
Employees working for Banner Home Care AZ must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
Employees working in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs.
Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input.
Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team.
Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed.
Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record.
Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department.
Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient.
