About The Position

Banner Health, recognized as one of Fortune’s Most Innovative Companies and Newsweek's Most Trustworthy Companies, is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse for Banner Gateway Medical Center’s Surgery department. This department features 13 Operating Rooms and supports a wide range of surgical specialties for a mostly adult population, including Oncologic, Bariatric, Robotic, General, Urology, GYN, and Orthopedics, and provides surgical support to the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Banner Gateway Medical Center is a state-of-the-art hospital near Phoenix in Gilbert, Arizona, offering 286 private rooms, 13 operating suites, a 46-bed emergency department, and advanced technology like electronic medical records and digital radiography. It has achieved Magnet™ recognition for nursing excellence. The campus also houses the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, which provides world-class inpatient and outpatient oncology care, including a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and comprehensive Head & Neck cancer care, equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities. The inpatient medical oncology unit incorporates electronic surveillance partnership. This Registered Nurse position involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting nursing care for patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards, utilizing specialized knowledge and judgment to provide age-appropriate care and ensuring the quality of nursing services.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Prior Operating Room experience required.
  • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs.
  • Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team.
  • Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record.
  • Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
  • In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department.
  • Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient.
