The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health, accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP), offers a full-time Registered Nurse position designed to transition new graduates into fully competent, professional nurses. This program provides a collaborative learning environment where participants can refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates are placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. The expectation is to remain on the NNE unit for at least 12 months to gain a full and comprehensive training experience. Banner Health offers multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities for long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, and non-bedside nursing. New Grads are required to live within a reasonable commute distance of their hired facility and typically work three 12-hour shifts, which include weekend and holiday rotations. The program activities include clinical experiences with a preceptor, training in the Banner Simulation Center, competency and skills assessment, orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system, patient care skills lab, and e-Learning modules. The PCU at Banner Estrella Medical Center is a 36-bed unit, serving as a step-down from critical care. It handles a high acuity population requiring continuous telemetry monitoring and cares for a variety of patient populations with diagnoses such as respiratory issues, renal issues, cardiac issues, alcohol/drug withdrawal, and infections. This is a newer PCU unit with new equipment, focused on building a strong team, with nurse-patient ratios typically 1:4 but flexing to 1:5.
