About The Position

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. The RN monitors maternal and fetal well-being, supports vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and collaborates with the obstetric care team to ensure safe outcomes for both mother and newborn.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience
  • Experience with fetal monitoring and labor management
  • Ability to manage high-risk obstetric patients
  • EMR experience (EPIC preferred)
  • Active NJ or Compact RN License
  • AHA BLS
  • AHA ACLS
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Nice To Haves

  • High-acuity or high-volume Labor & Delivery experience
  • Experience assisting with cesarean deliveries
  • EFM/Fetal Monitoring certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to laboring, delivering, and immediate postpartum patients.
  • Monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings and uterine activity.
  • Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
  • Administer medications per protocol, including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, and epidurals.
  • Perform cervical exams and labor assessments within scope of practice.
  • Manage high-risk obstetric patients, including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor.
  • Provide immediate newborn care and stabilization as needed.
  • Accurately document patient care and assessments in EMR (EPIC preferred).
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
  • Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesiology, pediatrics, and NICU teams.
  • Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies using clinical judgment.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and hospital policy compliance.
  • Participate in shift handoff and ensure continuity of care.
  • Perform other related nursing duties as assigned.
