The Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Care Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides an exciting, fast-paced environment. Our department is 22 beds, 10 L&D/Triage rooms and 12 Post Partum Rooms. We also have a 20 room dedicated nursery. Our unit provides the care of laboring patients from admission to discharge including labor and delivery, recovery, and postpartum care. We also care for OBGYN surgical patients to include hysterectomies and mastectomies. We are the top performing patient experience department at Obici. We frequently have daisy award winners. We are magnet designated and currently seeking an AWHONN designation as well. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
