About The Position

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Float Pool team. This full-time position involves working 3 x 12-hour day shifts (6:30/7:00 start) with rotating weekends. As a Float Nurse, you will provide compassionate care to patients across multiple inpatient units, working alongside a dedicated team of Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nurse Assistants. Your role is crucial in assessing patient needs, administering treatments, and ensuring patient comfort and safety in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care. Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, established in 1976, is a 295-bed acute care facility serving an 11-county area in south central Kentucky.

Requirements

  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems.
  • Effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand).
  • Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Cardiac Rhythms Test within 30 days of hire.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • 1-2 years minimum bedside RN experience required.
  • Current RN license in state of practice.
  • BCLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • 2-4 years critical care experience preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS preferred.
  • Handle with Care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice across multiple inpatient units.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to float where needed and collaborate with interprofessional teams to support safe, high-quality care.
  • Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and related medical care.
  • Documents care provided in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assists with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
  • Displays initiative and flexibility to float throughout the building to support departments and staff.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, psychosocial/spiritual support).
  • Assesses learning needs; provides age- and culture-appropriate patient/family education.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and required education; works other shifts/units as needed and may take on-call assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
