The Critical Response RN, under the direct and indirect supervision of the Medical/Surgical Critical Care Nurse Director and the Assistant Nurse Manager of the Critical Response Team, is a highly skilled registered nurse specializing in the care of critically ill patients. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, comprehensive patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team and responding promptly to complex, high-acuity cases. As an active member of the clinical leadership team, the Critical Response RN participates in clinical decision-making and manages deteriorating patients alongside medical teams, responding to all Rapid Response Team calls, including Code Blue, Code Stroke, and other consultations. They provide expert critical care across all areas of the hospital, offer review services, and deliver expert clinical support for patients meeting Proactive Rounding criteria. The RN will also offer expert clinical advice to nursing staff, other health professionals, and patients within all clinical areas, collaborating closely with clinical staff to address care issues. The Critical Response RN contributes to the development of clinical skills and knowledge among nursing staff and other health professionals, participates in the assessment of clinical competencies, and assists in emergency situations and unexpected clinical demands across all areas when available. Additionally, they are responsible for collecting data related to Rapid Response Team activities and may be required to flex to another campus to ensure adequate Critical Response coverage. The Critical Response RN is required to undergo advanced training and demonstrate competency in life-saving technologies such as CRRT, LVAD, and other necessary devices. As an engaged member of the Unit Practice Council (UPC) within nursing shared governance, the RN provides valuable insights during discussions and serves on UPC councils and Nursing Quality Teams. Active participation in the Unit Council allows the Critical Response RN to contribute to initiatives that aim to enhance NDNQI nursing-sensitive indicators, improve RN satisfaction, boost employee engagement, promote a culture of safety, and elevate patient experience. In collaboration with other team members, the Critical Response RN plays a key role in recruiting and retaining an exceptional nursing team, while ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to all patients, visitors, and staff at Northeast Georgia Health System.
