About The Position

The CIT Registered Nurse at VCU Health applies the nursing process, technical, and clinical skills to meet the needs of patients and families, building healing relationships focused on recovery and survivorship. VCU Health emphasizes personalized treatment plans based on in-depth evaluations and values individuality and diversity. The organization aims to preserve and restore health for all people of Virginia and beyond through innovation in service, research, and education, leading the nation in quality, affordability, and impact as an academic health system. The Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant (CIT) unit is a 21-bed inpatient unit providing leading-edge, collaborative, and comprehensive care for adult patients with blood and bone marrow disorders. As part of the VCU Massey Cancer Center, it is Virginia's largest adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant provider, offering FDA-approved CAR-T immunotherapies, clinical trials, and various forms of stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. The unit provides both outpatient and inpatient services, along with a suite of support services for symptom management and coping with cancer's effects. A typical shift involves a team of registered nurses, clinical coordinators, and Patient Care Techs (PCTs) caring for adult patients, dedicated to a fulfilling and high-energy work environment with a strong belief in cancer survivorship. Treatment for the CIT population on the inpatient unit includes chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, blood product transfusions, infusion of cellular therapy, symptom management, reviewing laboratory findings, and central line management including specialized intravenous infusions and clinical trials. As a CIT RN you are also collaborating with the team to assess and address goals of patient care, while educating patients on disease and treatment options. Through respectful, attentive and compassionate care, our multidisciplinary care team builds healing relationships with our patients that focus on recovery and survivorship. We work closely with a large team of supportive care specialists to address the psychological and social impacts of cancer for our patients.
