This Registered Nurse (RN) position provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient/family centered care. The role requires demonstrating clinical competency utilizing evidence-based practices/research in all areas of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and outcomes. The RN incorporates knowledge of safety protocols, cost containment and quality improvement throughout the nursing process, identifying patient, unit and organizational priorities. Adherence to all organizational compliance and policy/procedures is required, including licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance, dress code, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. The RN must demonstrate knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (TJC, SC DPH, CMS) and provide care within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. The acute inpatient setting may require staff to be scheduled for weekend, holiday, and on-call work. The role involves collecting data, completing nursing assessments, recognizing changes in patient status, developing and updating individualized plans of care in collaboration with the healthcare team and patient/family, and setting measurable goals. Direct patient care, delegation of tasks, monitoring quality of care, ensuring patient safety, and utilizing performance indicators are key functions. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care plans, reports changes, and incorporates quality improvement recommendations. Patient/family education is a significant component, as is evaluating one's own nursing practice against professional standards, maintaining licensure, and ensuring clear documentation and communication. The RN serves as the patient's advocate and care coordinator.
