This position is contingent upon award International Health and Medical Services is looking for an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients, including performing assessments, administering medications, and managing chronic and acute health conditions. This role involves collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of effective medical services while maintaining adherence to safety, security, and regulatory standards within the facility. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and mental status assessments Perform detailed mental health evaluations, including suicide and violence risk assessments, behavioral observations, and cognitive status examinations. Develop and implement individualized psychiatric care plans Create, update, and manage treatment plans focused on mental health diagnoses, therapeutic goals, and behavioral interventions in collaboration with psychiatrists and the interdisciplinary team. Administer and monitor psychotropic medications Safely administer psychiatric medications (e.g., antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, antidepressants), monitor for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions, and provide patient education on medication adherence. Provide therapeutic communication and crisis intervention Use evidence-based therapeutic communication techniques to de-escalate crises, manage aggressive or self-harm behaviors, and support patients during acute psychiatric episodes. Coordinate and participate in behavioral health treatment activities Facilitate or support group therapy sessions, psychoeducation, and behavioral modification programs while documenting patient progress and response to treatment. Provide intake screening and physical exams to identify conditions requiring referral or treatment, care for common acute problems via nursing guidelines. Perform nursing rounds for patients in infirmary care and segregated housing. Provide direct care to patients within discipline Scope of Practice and performs functions in accordance with current accepted practice, licensure, certification, credentialing and competencies. Perform sick call, assess and treat acute problems using nursing protocols and referring patients to an advanced practice provider, physician, behavioral health provider, or dentist as appropriate. Perform physical examinations using established tools for gathering subjective and objective data, referring patients to a medical provider, dental provider, or behavioral health provers as appropriate. Provides clinical supervision to Licensed Vocational Practical Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. Administer medications as ordered. Medications may be given via the oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, topical, ophthalmic, and other enteral and parenteral routes. Perform pre-screening and intake screening of patients newly arrived at the facility. Uses established intake tools for gathering subjective and objective data, referring abnormal findings or responses to a medical provider, dental provider or behavioral health provers as appropriate. Performs various treatments such as wound care, vital sign checks, electrocardiograms, as ordered by a medical provider, dental provider, behavioral health provider, or registered nurse. Collect laboratory specimens and perform point-of-care testing or prepare specimens for laboratory processing. Take appropriate action on lab results received. Respond to medical emergencies and render emergency care to stabilize patient and prevent deterioration. Transfers patient to appropriate level of care. Participate in involuntary, court-ordered care. Properly use equipment, materials and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures. Work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment. Utilize telephonic interpreter translation services to complete assigned duties if not fluent in a language the patient understands. Adapt to sudden changes in schedules and flexibility in work requirements. Communicate proficiently in English (verbal and written) in order to develop positive rapport with patients, co-workers and other stakeholders. Establish and maintain positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Navigate an electronic work environment including electronic health records, web-based training and communications. Moderate proficiency in, common Microsoft Office programs, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. Have knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all communications with coworkers and clients, fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment that values diversity. Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
