About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse for their Postpartum Unit at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. St. John’s Hospital is a 184-bed facility offering a warm, inviting atmosphere, caring staff, innovative technology, and a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The hospital is committed to delivering outstanding healthcare to its community. The Postpartum unit features 29 LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery & post-partum) beds, 2 triage rooms, 1 water birth room, and 2 OR suites. It provides single room care, averages over 200 deliveries a month, and manages many outpatients daily for antenatal testing, with a daily census of 18 mom and baby couplets. The NICU is newly remodeled and expanded to care for higher-risk patients (28 weeks gestational age). Fairview also offers a nurse residency program for eligible new graduate RNs in this role.

Requirements

  • 1 year of postpartum or pediatric experience or new grad with final rotation in labor and delivery or postpartum
  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Registered Nurse Minnesota

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 1 to 3 years' experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Assoc) Some positions may require ACLS depending on the unit and patient population

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the key leader of the interdependent team and achieve patient and unit outcomes by coordinating the care for a group of patients.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identify outcomes based on the needs' assessment; establish the plan of care; monitor progress; and modify the plan of care as needed.
  • Demonstrate dedication to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the HealthEast nursing vision and strategy.
  • Apply the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care.
  • Understand and incorporate holistic nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association whenever holistic therapy is offered.
  • Communicate effectively with patient/family, physicians, the interdependent team, and other disciplines regarding the plan of care.
  • Assess and document learning needs of the patient and family.
  • Develop an individualized education plan for patients and families based on identified needs.
  • Actively participate in crafting and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation.
  • Actively participate in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
