Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Recovery/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Meets the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients and families. Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team regarding changes in patient condition or response to treatment. Reports to the Director of Surgery. Essential Functions Performs duties as assigned and requested. Completes focused patient assessments and reassessments based on patient’s condition, procedures, medications, and treatments. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain; utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Provides patient care and communicates effectively with patients of all ages and with specific needs. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and ensures correct administration following the six rights to minimize medication errors. Assists physicians with procedures and provides services requiring technical and manual skills. Performs treatments and delivers care within licensure scope. Ensures patient safety by performing all aspects of care in an environment that reduces the likelihood of errors. Operates and manages equipment safely and correctly. Educates patients and families on disease processes and recovery expectations. Participates in performance improvement and continuing education. Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present; may involve contact with patients, blood, body fluids, or specimens. Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
