About The Position

Beloit Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse for an immediate opening in their Surgical Services Department at Beloit Memorial Hospital. This role involves caring for, planning, coordinating, supervising, and providing care for clients across their lifespan. The nurse will deliver care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation) and collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care and desired outcomes. Operating Room/Post Anesthesia Care Nurses specifically provide care and support to patients before, during, and after surgery, assisting the surgeon and surgical team. The position requires providing direct and individualized nursing care based on scientific nursing principles.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • ADN, Diploma, BSN, or MSN degree acceptable
  • State of Wisconsin nursing licensure, compact license or temporary permit required
  • If a compact license, application for a State of Wisconsin nursing license must be initiated in no more than 30 days from start date
  • Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply proper procedures to Beloit Health System policies
  • Employee possesses the training, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform the following activities (evaluation, treatment, and patient care) for patients in one or more of the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
  • Successful completion of pre-placement physical examination

Responsibilities

  • Care for, plan, coordinate, supervise and provide for clients throughout their life span
  • Deliver care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes
  • Provide care and support patients before, during and after surgery
  • Assist the surgeon and the surgical team in their tasks
  • Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles
  • Works with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience
  • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
  • Assists in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Center
  • Monitors use of and charge for all supplies used
  • Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format with computer software application appropriate to position
  • Preps operating room for patient/procedure
  • Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety
  • Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum
  • Must be able to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
  • Depending on setting, may also direct care provided by licensed practical nurses and nursing aides
  • Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient (Circulating Nurse role)
  • Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens (Circulating Nurse role)
  • Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis (Circulating Nurse role)
  • Observes, checks, and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly (Circulating Nurse role)
  • Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery (Circulating Nurse role)
  • Selects and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to surgeon (Scrub Nurse role)
  • Inventories all items both pre-and post-surgery with the Circulating RN (Scrub Nurse role)
  • Floating among various clinical services, as directed/needed
