Summary: Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states by the day of clinical care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • One (1) year of experience working in a registered nurse role in a surgical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Administers patient care under the direction of a physician.
  • Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
  • Develops a plan of care to protect patient safety, prevent injury, and ensure optimal care outcomes.
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes specific to surgical procedures through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of care, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Assesses and monitors patients per documented policy and procedure.
  • Collaborates with and assists interdisciplinary care team in the provision of surgical care.
  • Documents care performed before, during and after surgical encounter in electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) tool.
  • Performs surgical instrument and supply count.
  • Administers interventions during patient movement and positioning in order to prevent injury.
  • Ensures proper patient identification, site marking and surgical consent.
  • Collect, label and coordinate delivery of specimens to laboratory as well as order appropriate testing.
  • Communicates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care using cultural competency and active listening.
  • Develops relationships with patients and their families that promote their ability to advocate for patient and family needs.
  • Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
