This Registered Nurse (RN) position in Oncology involves evaluating assigned patients, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care. The role focuses on delivering excellent nursing care to a diverse patient population with complex concerns, performing various patient tests, and administering medications within the scope of practice. A key responsibility is promoting patient independence by establishing care goals and educating patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care skills, relying on experience and judgment to achieve these goals. The position is situated within a 27-bed medical/oncology unit, providing specialized care to adult and geriatric medical oncology patients, surgical gynecology patients, sickle cell patients, and in-patient hospice patients. Patients typically have a primary and/or secondary diagnosis of cancer, requiring comprehensive treatment for chronic and episodic illness, therapeutic interventions, and side effect management, including end-of-life care. Unique services provided on the unit include chemotherapy administration and side-effect management, blood administration, management of oncologic emergencies, pain management, psychosocial and spiritual care, and inpatient hospice care.
