Position Highlights: Position: Registered Nurse- New Grad Residency program- August 24, 2026 Cohort Location: Northwest Community Hospital – Arlington Heights, IL Full-time: 40 hours a week Hours: Days and Nights required with rotating weekends and holidays Now taking applications for our Northwest Community Hospital RN Residency Program - Start date August 24th, 2026! What you will do: Med/Surg focused nurse residents will rotate through a select number of medical/surgical clinical workplace settings before being placed on a home unit. Clinical workplace settings include Cardiac Renal unit, Post Surgical Unit, Neurology Unit, Orthopedic unit, Medical Pulmonary unit, Oncology unit, Medical observation unit, General Medical unit, Medical surgical Unit. Placement of final unit placement will be determined by a number of factors and candidates must be open to both nights and days. Once placed on home unit, you will work 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts, and every other weekend It will include learning at the bedside, supervised acquisition of skills, training and practice in the use of clinical equipment, documentation and other information systems. Actively participates in classroom activities with peers including didactic lecture, group discussion, and reflective learning exercises. Recognizes and acts upon changes in patient condition, exercise critical thinking and effectively intervene to move through the “task-based” phase of transitioning into nursing practice towards anticipation of needs. Consults with patient, families and ancillary team members on ethical issues including end of life, palliative care, and hospice transitions. Demonstrates effective use of communication and conflict management strategies for safe and timely patient care. . Participates in evidence-based practice or quality improvement project in their home units. Program Summary: The New Graduate Nurse Residency Program supports the new graduate nurse to make a successful transition to competent practice by providing a safe, nurturing, learning environment during the first year of practice using a two-phase approach. Focused curriculum concepts include disease-specific care, evidence-based practice, communication and teamwork, person-centered care and quality improvement. Critical thinking, professional accountability and responsibility are threaded throughout the curriculum. The residency program fosters peer support, nurse mentorship, and clinical guidance during this time of transition in practice.
