About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville (Jefferson County) has an opening for a Substitute Registered Nurse. The Kentucky School of the Blind (KSB) has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, Kindergarten to age 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills and attitudes to become confident, competent and independent adults. Currently KSB has a vacant Substitute Registered Nurse position in the KSB Health Services Section. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to work in a dynamic, student-centered environment focused on empowering the Blind and Visually Impaired community. The successful candidate will play an essential role in advancing KSD’s mission and values while benefiting from the support, training, and benefits of Kentucky state government employment. This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115. Shifts vary due to this position being a substitute Registered Nurse We’re hiring a nurse who can work flexibly and step in where needed. You may occasionally be asked to cover different shifts, including multiple shifts in a single day, to help ensure the team is fully supported.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed in Kentucky as a registered nurse or possess a valid work permit issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Administer initial medical treatment of health issues of all children on campus (i.e. administers prescribed medications, promote health maintenance, utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in the provision of patient care, intervenes when emergency care is required.
  • Collaborate with parents and staff to provide the health needs of students.
  • Accounts for medications upon assuming and leaving duties, investigations and reports on unusual incidents involving student and patient care.
  • Collaborate with contracted doctors and mental health professionals to provide communication for all student needs.
  • Transport or delegate transportation of students to emergency room if necessary.
  • Send appropriate documentation.
  • Maintain inventory and order necessary supplies/medications as needed.
  • Keep work area sanitized.
  • Participate in and, or, provide training as it applies to the position, the school and the department.
  • Work within a team approach to ensure a safe campus environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
