About The Position

Join the St. Cloud VA Health Care System as an Infection Prevention Registered Nurse supporting Rehabilitation and Extended Care. In this essential role, you will monitor infection trends, perform focused surveillance and rounding, educate staff and residents, and guide evidence-based practices that protect Veterans and maintain a safe, compliant, and prevention-focused care environment. The Infection Prevention Registered Nurse supports the Rehabilitation and Extended Care service line by leading efforts that safeguard the health, safety, and wellbeing of Veterans and staff. This role blends clinical assessment, surveillance, education, and system-level problem solving to identify risks, prevent transmission of infectious diseases, and uphold facility and national standards. Serving as a trusted partner to interdisciplinary teams, the nurse drives evidence-based practice, ensures readiness for emerging pathogens, and promotes a culture of prevention and accountability within the Community Living Center and beyond. Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track, and analyze infection data through chart audits, lab reviews, and surveillance reports to identify trends and guide timely interventions.
  • Lead evidence-based infection prevention practices by updating procedures, advising on clinical changes, and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections.
  • Conduct daily rounds and monthly environment-of-care inspections across Community Living Center units to ensure compliance with infection control standards.
  • Educate staff, Veterans, and families on infection prevention measures, hand hygiene, source control, vaccination importance, and facility safety practices.
  • Coordinate closely with the facility Infection Control Manager to address urgent or emerging infectious disease concerns and support system-wide alignment.
  • Ensure adequate access to supplies such as personal protective equipment, disinfectants, and hand hygiene materials, while monitoring unit-level inventory.
  • Lead or support outbreak management by assessing high-risk residents, reviewing new admissions, implementing isolation precautions, and tracking vaccination status.
  • Provide timely communication to leadership on infectious disease activity, concerns, or regulatory updates, and contribute to quality-improvement efforts across the Rehabilitation and Extended Care service line.
