About The Position

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking experienced and committed Registered Nurses (RN II). The RN II is responsible for implementing the nursing process, and is responsible and accountable for assessing, prescribing, delegating, coordinating, providing, and improving acute and specialized nursing care. They also integrate PI concepts, standards of nursing care, hospital mission and applicable regulations. Provides care to clients from the community/DPH/DMH/DOC or DDS under the direction of the Nurse Manager/charge nurse. Provides leadership in organizing the delivery of patient care as team leader/charge nurse to assign, supervise, and evaluate the nursing care of LPN's, NA's and support staff according to their scope of practice and competence and according to department policies/procedures. Please Note Schedule: Positions Available (2) Evening. Work every other weekend, with days off assigned. Evening: 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory knowledge of the scientific theories and principles of nursing.
  • Applies scientific principles to performance of nursing process.
  • Communicates effectively through oral reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to organize work assignments and prioritize patient needs.
  • Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
  • Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments of patients according to unit policy.
  • Develop and implement personalized Plans of Care in collaboration with patients, their families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Document nursing interventions, administer prescribed medications, and monitor patient responses.
  • Perform ongoing assessments to evaluate treatment effectiveness and communicate changes to healthcare teams.
  • Provide patient education to promote health outcomes and facilitate understanding of health status.
  • Lead and supervise care delivery by LPNs and NAs according to department standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and risk management.
  • Maintain professional growth through mandatory review classes and continuing education.
  • Ensure patient privacy, investigate complaints, and clarify hospital policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the environment to reduce safety and health hazards and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Provide age-appropriate, culturally, and spiritually sensitive care.
  • Assure continuity of care by following hospital-wide Hand Off Communication policies.
  • Demonstrate respect and dignity when interacting with staff, patients, families, visitors, and outside agencies.
