The Clinical Nurse II, Oncology is a Registered Nurse responsible for delivering direct care to assigned Oncology patients in an ambulatory setting. This role involves utilizing standards of care, approved policies and procedures, and appropriate decision-making skills to independently and safely manage routine patient assignments. The Clinical Nurse II establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
  • Valid CA RN license required
  • BLS Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • ACLS Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • 1 year acute care experience in a specialty required
  • For Infusion Center: ONS Chemo/Immunotherapy Certified required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • For Imaging Dept: 2 years of critical care experience (i.e. ED, PACU, ICU, Cath Lab, IR) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assesses appropriately patient care needs and learning needs in routine oncology patient populations
  • Reviews lab diagnostic data and incorporates in assessment
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) monitoring to maintain or improve care of Oncology patient population
  • Plans patient care and education based on disease process, anticipated patient outcomes, complications of treatment, and psycho-social needs in collaboration with other healthcare team members
  • Initiates and follows through with appropriate referrals to other interdisciplinary healthcare team members
  • Demonstrates competency in use of technical skills as required (i.e., IV therapy equipment utilization, universal precautions, body mechanics)
  • Establish IV access utilizing peripheral or central catheters per protocol. Drug should only be prepared once an IV access is established and labs verified
  • Administer IV therapy as ordered by MD
  • Assists as a chaperone when needed upon completion of the required Chaperone Training
