About The Position

Description Summary of Essential Functions Responsible and accountable for the age-specific delivery of individualized nursing care to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Able to incorporate current clinical knowledge and experience with established nursing practice to formulate an individualized plan of care, utilizing the nursing process. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Current Texas licensure as a professional nurse.
  • Current certification Basic Life Support.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Course.
  • ACLS.
  • Conscious Sedation Competency.
  • Minimum one year experience as RN.
  • Demonstrates competency in delivery of advanced level of direct and indirect care to the ill, disabled and/or anxious patient in the Endoscopy Department.
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize critical thinking skills to formulate plan of care for patient specific populations.
  • Able to recognize emergency, critical or unusual situations and respond quickly and efficiently in a calm and effective manner.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, family, physicians, co-workers and management.
  • Flexible and adaptable, follows instructions accurately and documents information accurately.
  • Able to set priorities and make effective decisions based upon available data.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of GI disease process.
  • Acts as a Preceptor, mentor and educator.
  • Willing to learn and effectively maintain electronic medical records.
  • Lengthy periods of standing.
  • Moving gurneys, carts and equipment, carry and lift instruments, supplies and equipment.
  • Assisting with the positioning of patients.
  • Medium strength requirements: Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
  • Involves minimal temperature and moderate noise level changes.
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer specialty certification (SGNA).
  • Sedation, PACU, or critical care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the collection, interpretation, documentation and communication of pertinent data that is relevant to the patient’s care.
  • Demonstrates high level of competency in assessment skills, both physiological and psychosocial.
  • Physiological health status includes verification of the Consent for Treatment, correct procedures, and correct physician.
  • Provide patient sedation under the direction of a physician after successful completion of sedation nurse competency assessment, ACLS, and airway training. (all 3 must be met)
  • Demonstrates ability to meet patient education needs.
  • Properly instructs family in care after a procedure.
  • Utilizes knowledge of safety principles to establish an environment that is safe for patients, personnel and physicians.
  • Responsible for the effective and judicious utilization of supplies in the unit and is responsible for the coordination of use of supplies and equipment and maintenance of par levels in assigned area.
  • Administers/dispenses medications, drugs and solutions according to policy and physician order.
  • Mixes/reconstitutes medications, drugs, and solutions according to policy, and labels appropriately.
  • Responsible for evaluation of patient outcome data and the actions necessary for process improvement in the endoscopy setting.
  • Assists/devises PI projects to improve care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of policies, state, federal, AAAHC, CDC and SGNA guidelines and is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and teaching of infection control principles in the practice setting.
  • Follows correct protocol for care, cleaning and disinfection of beds, monitors, and equipment in patient care areas.
  • Utilizes Standard Precautions and appropriate PPE in practice.
  • Utilizes proper procedure for collection and documentation of specimens during procedure.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
