About The Position

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes. The following Intensive Care Units will be participating in the Spring 2026 New Grad blitz. Please apply to this posting by January 14 if you are interested in any of the units below: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) 5 West, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 23-bed mixed acuity Heart and Vascular unit. Twelve of our patient rooms are dedicated to service ICU level patients including management of swan Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impellas, ventilated patients, and CRRT. The remaining 11 beds serve intermediate level patients. The nurses on this unit can manage a-lines, lumbar drains, and titrate cardiac drips on the intermediate care patients. Our patient population consists of primarily Advance Heart Failure, Cardiology, and Vascular surgery patients. This unit functions as the stepdown unit for the Ashley River Tower offering a higher level of care for the many specialties in this building. Nurse: patient ratios range from 1:1-1:3 based on patient acuity. This highly engaged team is innovative, dynamic, and fast-paced. Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) The CTICU is a 21-bed Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit specializing in everything Cardiac Surgery. We care for patients post operatively after coronary bypass, valve replacements/repairs, and aortic dissection repairs. We also care for patients after thoracic surgery including esophagectomies, and pneumonectomies. We are the only heart and lung transplant center in the State and are top 5 in the nation for LVAD implantation. We care for patients that have many different methods of mechanical circulatory support i.e. intraortic balloon pumps, impellas, centrimag, and we are the only adult unit that manages VA ECMO. We are the only unit that is specialized and certified in CSU-ALS which is ACLS for post cardiac surgery. Any one of our beds can be used for emergent surgeries and procedures. Given the fast pace, and high acuity we have an extensive orientation process. There are many different opportunities for professional development within the CTICU. After getting experience many of our nurses are on the Rapid Response Team, and ECMO team. There is also Leadership growth potential with RSL/CSL positions. We are a unit that is greatly dependent on a successful Shared Governance, which drives practice changes and workflow optimizations. Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Step into our prestigious Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), a distinguished 17-bed facility renowned for its exceptional expertise in managing complex medical cases. Our top-notch team of dedicated professionals possesses extensive experience and training, enabling us to excel in providing comprehensive treatment for conditions such as multi-system organ failure, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, respiratory failure, and endocrine emergencies. Our ICU is equipped with cutting-edge technology and fosters a compassionate and patient-centered environment, ensuring that every individual receives tailored care addressing their unique needs and concerns throughout their journey to recovery. As a center of excellence, we are committed to delivering the utmost attention, support, and compassion to our patients and their families. The MICU has been awarded the AACN Silver Beacon Award 4 times. Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) MSICU is an 18-bed unit that provides care to adult patients covering various medical and surgical patient populations. The various medical diagnoses include multi-system organ failure, hematology/oncology, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post lung transplants. This intensive care unit also has a sub-specialty in digestive disease and cares for patients with renal, endocrine, liver disease, GI surgery and GI hemorrhage, pancreatitis, and islet cell transplants. In addition, MSICU cares for the obstetric patients requiring ICU level of care. Staff are trained in advanced hemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy, ECMO, pulmonary artery catheters, and aggressive ventilator therapy. The MSICU has earned the Silver Beacon Award. Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) With 23 beds, The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is one of the largest ICUs within the MUSC Charleston Campus. As a comprehensive stroke center, and level one trauma center, the NSICU cares for some of the highest acuity neurosurgical and neurological patients in the region. Our patient population consists of those diagnosed with ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, and post-op neurosurgical patients. Staff are trained in the management of external ventricular drains (EVD’s), intracranial pressure monitoring, lumbar drains, continuous renal replacement therapy, LVAD’s and much more. The NSICU thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced learning environment focused on providing safe, high-quality patient and family centered care. Surgical Trauma Burn Intensive Care Unit The Trauma and Burn Intensive Care Unit (STBICU) is the only combined critical care unit of its kind in the state of South Carolina. With a total of 16 beds. The STBICU offers advanced critical care services for both trauma and burn patients resulting from catastrophic injury. Our nursing care is facilitated by multidisciplinary teams to include but not limited to medical staff, fellows, residents, advanced practitioners, pharmacy, respiratory, and physical therapy to address all multi-system variances. The care we provide is differentiated by nurse-to-patient ratio, the need for advanced invasive monitoring, and the use of mechanical and pharmacological life sustaining therapies (mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, hemodynamic monitoring, continuous dialysis). Requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
