About The Position

Assumes primary responsibility with the Education Team for coordinating education, precepting and training of all team members of Halifax Health Hospice. Available to meet the educational needs of the various departments within Halifax Health Hospice, and provides educational opportunities to the community. Excellent written and verbal communication and public speaking skills. Ability to impart information in the appropriate manner for adult learners with varied educational backgrounds. Organized, flexible, and innovative. Conducts, coordinates, and evaluates orientation and precepting process for all new team members. Assures new team members receive a comprehensive orientation to support their role through mentoring, precepting and educational support. Reviews and revises orientation program, preceptor program, and orientation at least annually and as needed. Participates in assigned committees, community outreach, and educational opportunities as needed. Determines clinical and operational learning needs using feedback from the Educational Committee, Directors and other departments as needed. Conducts annual and ongoing skills competencies with clinical team members. Reviews, updates and creates competencies annually and when changes to processes occur. Evaluates team members for competencies relevant to their job responsibilities and provides remedial education when competency not demonstrated. Assists in the review and update of current policies and procedures; makes recommendations for revisions based on evidenced-based practice, regulatory requirements, the CoPs. Assist with field visits and admissions when needed. Stays apprised of up-to-date information, procedures and processes to support best and evidence-based practices to meet the educational offerings for team members and the community Educational programs reflect current research and evidence-based practices and focus on patient and caregiver-centered care. Performs frequent field visits for all disciplines to support learning, discipline specific skills, supervisory visits, infection control and auditing Oversight of designated preceptors to ensure that consistent information meets quality, regulatory standards, the goals of the organization and the Quality and Education Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • RN in the state of Florida.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in hospice or a related field.
  • Previous experience in an education position highly desired.
  • CHPN preferred upon taking the role and required within one year.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and public speaking skills.
