About The Position

The primary purpose of the Registered Nurse (RN) – Shift Supervisor is to oversee and supervise day-to-day nursing operations during the assigned shift, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities. This role works in collaboration with the Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care, safety, and regulatory compliance at all times. Maintain confidentiality of all resident information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), and report any suspected or confirmed breaches immediately Ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect, fairness, and compassion Provide nursing care in a private and respectful manner at all times Knock before entering resident rooms Report resident grievances, complaints, abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property immediately per facility policy Honor resident rights to refuse treatment and report refusals to appropriate leadership Communicate professionally and respectfully, recognizing cultural diversity among residents and staff Assist the Director of Nursing in directing day-to-day nursing operations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations Provide written and verbal reports to the DON regarding shift operations and resident care concerns Ensure nursing staff compliance with licensure, job duties, and professional standards Participate in facility surveys and inspections as requested by the Administrator or DON Admit, transfer, and discharge residents per policy and regulatory requirements Complete accident and incident reports accurately and timely Interpret and enforce nursing policies and procedures for staff, residents, and visitors Complete required administrative tasks including charting, reports, and documentation in PointClickCare Maintain strict confidentiality of system access credentials and resident information Ensure adequate staffing levels of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs at the start of each shift Assign nursing units and workloads appropriately Conduct routine nursing rounds to ensure care is delivered according to standards Monitor attendance and report call-offs to Scheduler and Human Resources Enforce facility policies, including dress code and professional conduct standards Foster teamwork and positive working relationships across all departments Promote a calm, respectful, and supportive environment on the unit Address performance concerns fairly and without discrimination Report occupational exposures and ensure compliance with safety protocols Ensure unattended workstations are logged off or secured per policy Communicate new admissions, room assignments, and care needs to nursing staff Ensure rooms and equipment are prepared for admissions Greet new residents and assist with orientation as needed Complete comprehensive admissions and assessments in PointClickCare Ensure required admission paperwork and consents are completed timely Collaborate with physicians during rounds and encourage timely documentation Notify physicians and next-of-kin of incidents or changes in condition Ensure compliance with Department of Health reporting timelines for abuse, neglect, or misappropriation Review nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance Provide direct nursing care as needed, including IV therapy, specimen collection, and vital signs Monitor medication administration and treatment schedules Review MARs/TARs for accuracy and adherence to physician orders Ensure frequent monitoring of residents unable to call for assistance Communicate resident status updates to the Director of Nursing Assist families with discharge planning, transportation, and end-of-life coordination Review resident care plans daily to ensure appropriate interventions Communicate care plan changes to the RNAC Ensure nursing documentation reflects care plan compliance Complete assigned nursing assessments accurately and timely Encourage resident and family participation in care planning Participate in ongoing education to maintain licensure and clinical competency Attend internal and external training programs as required Participate in scheduled in-services and continuing education programs Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free unit environment Ensure staff compliance with PPE, infection control, and hand hygiene protocols Monitor proper use of lifting equipment and safe resident handling techniques Ensure adequate PPE supplies are available Maintain knowledge of MSDS/SDS requirements and report deficiencies

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be Graduate of an approved RN program.
  • Must have a minimum, one (1) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility.
  • Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in this state.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must possess a valid CPR certification
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must meet all local health regulations and criminal background checks, post-offer drug trust, and post-off physical
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements by the state
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and the team concept
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
