About The Position

The Registered Nurse collaborates with physicians to provide a plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. This role involves providing bedside nursing care, carrying out medical orders, and delegating tasks to and overseeing various ancillary personnel such as Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Techs. The nurse is also responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Basic Neuroscience course; required within first 6 months of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course
  • Must complete TNCC (Trauma Nurse Certification) within one (1) year of hire/transfer
  • Must complete ENPC within two (2) years of hire/transfer

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent preferred
  • Critical Care Nurse preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for a leadership role encompassing: Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
  • Communicates relevant information in a manner that is understandable and effective.
  • Shows organizational skills through effective planning.
  • Utilizes the nursing process on admission and throughout hospitalization, actively involving the patient and family in the plan of care through: Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation.
  • Demonstrates safe medication administration in accordance to established procedure.
  • Responds to real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to established Policy & Procedure.
  • Maintains a safe patient care environment.
  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing basic and specific skills and the utilization of equipment required for patient care. (See unit specific competencies)
  • Collects and analyzes data pertaining to patient care or unit-specific activity/process.
  • Provides for age specific need of the population served according to unit specific competencies as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Consistently demonstrates Bay Pride behaviors.
  • Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.
  • Participates in activities which promote quality improvement and research in nursing.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
