About The Position

Coordinate and deliver nursing care for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department Work independently while following provider orders, nursing standards, and hospital policies Make independent clinical decisions during assigned shifts Maintain accountability for all nursing actions Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs and Technicians Remain calm and exercise sound judgment in emergent situations

Requirements

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license (Alaska or other U.S. state)
  • Alaska RN license required prior to start (direct hire must have applied)
  • BLS required at hire
  • ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire
  • TNCC required for Emergency Department nurses
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Clinical Competency within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
  • High Risk Competency within 3 months of hire and annually
  • Strong knowledge of nursing care principles and emergency nursing practices
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergent and life-threatening conditions
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, effects, and complications
  • Proficiency with medical and emergency equipment (defibrillators, monitors, ventilators, etc.)
  • Ability to assist with emergency procedures (intubation, arterial lines, ABGs, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide leadership
  • Ability to implement evidence-based nursing interventions

Nice To Haves

  • One year of clinical nursing experience preferred
  • Prior Emergency Department or specialty experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, therapeutic, and efficient care using appropriate infection control practices
  • Prioritize patient care based on acuity, preferences, and changing clinical conditions
  • Anticipate complications and respond to emergencies and changes in patient status
  • Administer age-specific medications and treatments accurately
  • Utilize and demonstrate proper use of medical and emergency equipment
  • Initiate actions to prevent, reduce, or correct patient risks
  • Facilitate healing through individualized, goal-oriented, evidence-based nursing care
  • Explain tests, procedures, and disease processes to patients and families
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and educational support to patients and families
  • Evaluate patient progress and revise care plans as needed
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments through interview and observation
  • Complete thorough admission assessments and nursing databases
  • Interpret age-specific patient needs (pediatric, adult, geriatric)
  • Review labs, diagnostics, charts, and interdisciplinary input
  • Identify nursing diagnoses and patient limitations, including psychosocial risks
  • Develop, implement, and document individualized plans of care
  • Transcribe and execute physician orders accurately
  • Document reassessments, patient observations, and outcomes
  • Provide accurate shift handoff reports
  • Educate patients and families to promote understanding and coping
  • Evaluate effectiveness of patient and staff education
  • Participate in patient care conferences as needed
  • Develop and implement educational programs, in-services, and learning aids
  • Provide discharge education and instructions
  • Maintain required certifications (ACLS, PALS, TNCC/ATCN, NRP as applicable)
  • Complete all mandatory training, competencies, and skill validations
  • Utilize opportunities for ongoing staff education
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Provide constructive feedback to staff
  • Assist with orientation of new staff, travelers, and students
  • Guide and mentor staff in clinical decision-making and skill development
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards
  • Act as Contact RN when assigned and lead unit activities
  • Float to other units as needed to support nursing services
  • Attend and participate in at least 50% of staff meetings
  • Participate in unit goal setting and performance improvement
  • Maintain certifications, licensure, and annual competencies
  • Comply with scheduling guidelines and dress code
  • Address unresolved issues with Nurse Manager or leadership
  • Follow Human Resources policies for employee concerns
