About The Position

The Bruce W Carter VA medical Center is looking for recruit for a Registered Nurse Educator who is a registered professional nurse who is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising staff educationDelivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and a lifelong learner that can practice with flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of learning needs within the healthcare organization. The Nurse Nurse Educator is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based education to staff. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Clinical Nurse Educator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization. Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies. Serves as a trainer and consultant for Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program including certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor. Monitors and tracks BLS/Advanced Life Support (ALS) compliance within the organization. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to support and evaluate responses to emergency responses in the facility to include BLS and ALS. Systematically evaluates current practice, formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing clinical and administrative recommendations to senior leadership relative to nursing education and evidence-based practice. The incumbent plans, designs, integrates, implements, and modifies nursing education activities for both service level and facility wide performance.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of training programs to meet regulatory requirements and to support nursing standards and competency in the provision of patient care for nurses within and outside Nursing Service. In addition, he/she will work collaboratively with other services to support system-wide education initiatives and competency requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Nurse Education and other Chief Nurses or Assistant Chief Nurses across the health care system, as well as Service Chiefs to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan, meet the needs of veteran patients, satisfy staff, and result in positive clinical and administrative outcomes.
  • Manages resources in the all programs that fall under the umbrella of Nursing Education: Nursing Service Orientation, AHA Basic Life Support Program, Affiliations Program, Scholarship Program, Evidence-Based Nursing Practice, Safe Patient Handling, and Nurse Residency Programs. Aggregates data and participates in the budget process to plan for current, emerging and future resource requirements (financial, human, material and/or informational) based on systems that produce high quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for ongoing improvement in Nursing Education using the National League of Nursing competencies to expand care and promote transformational care in all patient care areas. This involves group collaboration with nursing staff, Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Leaders, Infection Control, Program Managers/Coordinators, Nursing Operations, Nursing Informatics, Medical Media, Logistics, Reproduction, ACOS Education, Designated Learning Officer, Library, Accreditation, Patient Safety, Shared Governance Councils, and Office of the ADPCS.
  • Organizes, participates, and evaluates mock codes.
  • Supports nurse residency programs including the development of curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation, lecture case studies and virtual reality.
  • Develops proficient level coaching and mentoring skills.
