About The Position

UC Health is hiring a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Nurse (CN I) for the Gastrointestinal 8 East unit for the Night Shift at UC Medical Center. The Gastrointestinal Nurse will support the Medical Center's medicine and Level 1 Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures. This 16 bed unit has ratios ranging from 4 to 6 patients per nurse. This nurse will help manage liver patients (pre and post-transplant), cystic fibrosis patients, many off-service patients and some behavioral health components with medical needs. As part of the Main Campus of UC Health, Greater Cincinnati’s academic health system, University of Cincinnati Medical Center has served Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky for nearly 200 years. It provides specialty and subspecialty medical care, conducts research for new therapies, and houses Greater Cincinnati’s only Level I adult trauma center. The 8 East unit is a 16-bed Med Surg - GI/Liver/CF unit, known for special projects providing innovative care. It offers daily clinical groups for support and teaching, orients Healthcare Exploration students, and fosters close collaboration with physician teams and unit councils for team member input. It is part of the Greater Cincinnati’s only Level 1 Adult Trauma Center.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate’s Degree, minimum required
  • Current OH RN License

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
