UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring a full-time Registered Nurse to support our Cardiac ICU! UPMC Presbyterian is our Level 1 Trauma Center located in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. It is a recognized leader in organ transplantation, cardiology, trauma, stroke, and many other medical and surgical specialties. UPMC Presbyterian is a renowned teaching hospital and center of ongoing cutting-edge research and education. As a nurse at UPMC Presbyterian, you will set the standards for quality of nursing care, exemplify a commitment to the community, and lead the way in life-changing medicine. The UPMC Presbyterian Cardiac ICU is a 10-bed critical care facility primarily caring for adult patients with acute cardiac diseases and conditions. We take a multidisciplinary approach to care, with patient treatment frequently encompassing other specialties including pulmonary, oncology, renal, gastrointestinal, and vascular surgical to name a few. Our patients commonly suffer from conditions including myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure, and life-threatening arrhythmia. The CICU service team includes residents on internal medicine rotations, cardiology fellows, and an attending physician. Cross-training with the Cardiac Cath Lab to begin after one year of experience within the CICU.

Requirements

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
  • ACLS within 1 year of employment
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Good clinical judgment.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in applying the nursing process.
  • The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Intensive Care Unit experience
  • Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC

  • Shows the ability to set priorities and demonstrates an understanding of shared governance and begins participating at the unit level.
  • Begins to demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions.
