The Registered Nurse Anesthesia assists anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. Supports fluid resuscitation efforts with set-up, IV fluid delivery systems, volume administration, and blood administration. Assist with point of care testing. May assist with the transport of medication to or from the provider. Responsible for maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment and providing assistance and support for the Clinical/Anesthesia Tech I and II as needed. Utilizes knowledge, expertise, and involvement in professional activities to teach new anesthesia employees and serve as a resource for other members of the anesthesia and OR teams. Serves as Anesthesia Support across the Health Care System. Responsible for the performance of diversified nursing functions in emergency or other unpredictable situations requiring additional nursing care in addition to the basic Registered Professional Nurse job description. The RN Anesthesia manages patients requiring extensive, invasive intervention (central lines) and assist with emergent respiratory support. Works independently and gives direction to other members of the health care team. In conjunction with the duties of the critical care staff nurse, will also perform duties of the critical care resource nurse. The RN is legally accountable and responsible for patient care, whether accomplished personally or by another perioperative team member. The RN will be competent to provide patient care following standards set forth in the Florida Nurse Practice Act, SMH, and the department.
