About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital’s Clinical Neurophysiology Department (CNPS) provides comprehensive neurological diagnostic services including Neurovascular Ultrasound, EEG, EMG, and IONM. MUSC is a Joint Commission–certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and a national leader in neurosciences, offering world-class technology and physician expertise. As our neuroscience program continues to expand, we are seeking a dedicated Registered Neurovascular Sonographer II with strong Transcranial Doppler (TCD) experience to support both adult and pediatric patient populations. This role plays a critical part in stroke care, sickle cell management, and the expansion of our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). Our Clinical Neurophysiology Lab proudly includes five accredited laboratories and is one of only two programs in the nation with the highest number of neurophysiology accreditations. We are committed to excellence, innovation, and advancing patient care. The Registered Neurovascular Sonographer II performs comprehensive neurovascular ultrasound studies, including extracranial and intracranial testing, in support of MUSC’s stroke, neuroscience, and sickle cell programs. This role collaborates closely with physicians, technologists, and multidisciplinary care teams to ensure accurate diagnostics and high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited ultrasound program of Vascular technology or the equivalent
  • Registered Neurovascular Sonographer credential (RVS or RVT) required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, either as a certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Demonstrated Transcranial Doppler (TCD) experience is preferred
  • Experience performing extracranial and intracranial neurovascular studies
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, academic medical environment
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence

Responsibilities

  • Performing advanced neurovascular ultrasound studies, including Transcranial Doppler (TCD)
  • Supporting stroke evaluations and ongoing monitoring for adult and pediatric patients
  • Assisting in the care of patients within the NSICU and Sickle Cell Center
  • Maintaining compliance with accreditation and quality standards
  • Participating in continuing education and professional development
  • Supporting MUSC’s mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research
