Position Overview: Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB) is Lifelong’s food and nutrition program, providing medically tailored meals, culturally relevant groceries, and nutritional counseling & education to community members facing illness and injustice. The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) will support CSB clients through individualized nutrition counseling/Medical Nutrition Therapy. They will also provide practical skill-building experiences to clients via cooking demonstrations, grocery store tours, and group classes to increase self-efficacy around eating a healthy diet. The RDN will support the Medically Tailored Meal program through meal nutrient analysis, ensuring that meals meet meal nutrition standards. The Registered Dietitian will support Lifelong meal and grocery programs by assisting with the development of nutrition policies that guides the work and direction of the program. This regular, full-time, non-exempt, union role is based in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, with onsite presence required at least three days per week (Tuesday – Thursday).

  • Bachelor's degree and Registered Dietitian status (RD / RDN) from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Washington State Department of Health Licensure
  • Proficiency in English is required and fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Somali, Amharic or Tigrinya is preferred for this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage clients or consumers from diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Valid Washington State Food Handlers Permit (or obtain one within one month of being hired) and thorough knowledge of food safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Use the Nutrition Care Process according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) to provide nutrition counseling and ongoing follow-up to clients via phone, telehealth, or home visits.
  • Assess nutritional status and develop comprehensive nutrition care plan for clients with a range of illnesses including cancer, HIV, and diabetes.
  • Provide practical skill-building experiences to clients via cooking demonstrations, grocery store tours, and group classes to increase self-efficacy around eating a healthy diet.
  • Assist with development of client education materials and publications.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate, timely client data to support service delivery, reporting, compliance, and outcome tracking.
  • Verify eligibility and enroll clients across multiple funding sources with varying requirements.
  • Complete annual recertifications for clients.
  • Communicate program policies, procedures, and service expectations clearly and compassionately to clients.
  • Respond promptly to client and provider inquiries.
  • Serve as a liaison among clients, CSB staff, and care providers to support continuity and quality of care.
  • Coordinate mailings, printing, documentation, and filing of client contact materials.
  • Schedule nutrition assessments, intakes, and recertifications for clients.
  • Work in partnership with the Executive Chef to ensure meals meet nutrition standards.
  • Assist with the development of evidence-based nutrition policies and standards for meal and grocery programs.
  • Support food program operations, including food preparation and distribution, as needed.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings and stakeholder gatherings such as Food Is Medicine Coalition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
