About The Position

The Nutritionist/Dietician will evaluate, develop, plan, and conduct, the nutrition component of the health care program. In his/her assessment of the medical population, will develop services to meet the patient population needs. RESPONSIBILITIES: The BMS Clinical Nutritionist/Dietician is expected to provide healthy nutritional options, as well as alternative and integrated dietary options to the BMS patient population, using a best practice approach to nutritional care; and within his/her given degree and license Implement the policies and guidelines for nutritional care Provide nutrition education and arrange for screenings, assessments, and counseling for pre-natal, pediatric, and adult patients, in collaboration with the primary care clinician. Provide nutritional oversight for menu-planning and dietary components at Brownsville Community Residential Center, including periodic site visits / workshop as needed. Provide nutrition education in-service training to other members of the clinical team. Provide nutrition education and health promotion programs at BMS Health Centers and within the community. Provide off-site educational lectures on Nutrition to community groups (such as senior citizen centers) when required. Develop and conduct workshops, group visits, classes or waiting room patient education sessions for the most prevalent chronic disorders found in the population, e.g., diabetes, hypertension, weight control and cardiovascular disease. Provide individual dietary assessment and nutrition counseling for complex multi-faceted nutrition needs. Encourage patients to engage in consistent physical activity. Create and document an exercise plan / goal. Document all nutrition counseling in patient’s medical charts on the day of service or within 48 hours of the visit. Submit all billable encounters to the billing department within a timely manner. Establish communication with healthcare providers for multi-disciplinary management of cases. Develop nutrition education materials appropriate for the population. Participate in nutrition quality improvement processes. Meet productivity goals.

Requirements

  • Registered/Certified Dietitian, Certified Nutritionist or Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist degree
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Foods and Nutrition/Dietetics or an equivalent background. Master’s degree in Nutrition
  • At least two years of experience in clinical nutrition required
  • Certification in both Infection Control and Child Abuse
  • BCLS Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Diabetic Educator Certification preferred.
  • Bilingual is a plus in Spanish or Creole
