About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Registered Dietitian III within the Clinical Nutrition Department. In this advanced clinical role, the Registered Dietitian III provides comprehensive medical nutrition therapy to adult inpatients across Cardiology, the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU), and General Medicine. The dietitian conducts complex nutrition assessments, establishes nutrition diagnoses, develops and evaluates individualized nutrition care plans, and supports patients with high-acuity and medically complex conditions. Practice is guided by evidence-based standards, performance improvement initiatives, and regulatory, accrediting, and licensing requirements. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, the Registered Dietitian III provides education to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to optimize nutrition support, therapeutic diets, and clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) with successful completion of coordinated program, dietetic internship, or other experience approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Maintenance of RD through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • A minimum of six (6) years of clinical experience with a master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field OR nine (9) years of clinical experience with a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field is required to qualify as a Registered Dietitian III. Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered based on overall qualifications.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation
  • Specialty certification relevant to the area of clinical practice or position (e.g., Certified Specialist in Pediatrics [CSP], Certified Nutrition Support Clinician [CNSC], Certified Specialist in Oncology [CSO], Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition [CSR]).
  • Must comply with UChicago Medicine’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law. Lastly, a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check are also required for all employees prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to adult inpatients in Cardiology, CTICU, and General Medicine using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP).
  • Conduct complex nutrition assessments and identify nutrition diagnoses for high-acuity and medically complex patients.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individualized nutrition care plans based on clinical status and disease progression.
  • Provide and manage nutrition support recommendations, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicate nutrition recommendations clearly to physicians, nursing, and care team members and provide patient/family education as appropriate.
  • Document nutrition care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives within an academic medical center.
