Benefits Eligible Full-Time Benefit Eligible Work Shift Variable - 8 Hour or less Shift (United States of America) Department 8340 Food & Nutrition Svcs-KHMC The Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) works under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian to provide high-quality nutrition care to patients, residents, clients, and/or the community. This role supports the clinical nutrition team by reviewing consult orders, screening patients for nutrition risk, educating patients and families, and assisting the Food & Nutrition Department operations within the scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR)
  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within six months of hire/transfer.
  • Knowledge of IDDSI standards, therapeutic diets, and nutrition documentation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles and dietary modifications for health conditions.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and diet order interpretation.
  • Excellent communication, education, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Competence in computer applications and electronic health records.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, long-term care, school nutrition, or community nutrition programs.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors individualized nutrition care plans as directed by the Registered Dietitian.
  • Conducts nutrition screenings to identify patients at nutritional risk.
  • Monitors patient tolerance with diets, nutritional intake, and clinical progress; reports changes to the dietitian.
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on diet plans, special diets, and nutrition guidelines.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for general health promotion and disease management within the scope of practice.
  • Completes documentation in the medical record according to facility policies, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards.
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, IDDSI, state health department).
  • Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, and safety initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Registered Dietitian, dietary staff, nursing, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assists in the development of and teaching department in-services.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and continuing education to maintain credentials and professional growth.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
