About The Position

Nashville Classical East seeks a paraprofessional teacher committed to working hard, having fun, and making history. Our team educates a diverse community through a joyful, rigorous curriculum and within a structured, intentional culture, building a foundation of knowledge and habits for high school, college, and life. A paraprofessional’s job is to support Nashville Classical’s mission by expanding inclusionary opportunities for all scholars, including scholars with exceptional needs. Paraprofessionals will work directly with scholars daily to help them access the general education curriculum and increase their achievement toward IEP goals. This support occurs within general education and pullout classrooms, using least-invasive interventions, while holding scholars to high expectations both academically and behaviorally. Our teachers and paraprofessionals also: Implement school-wide systems for scholar culture. Commit to a daily schedule from 7:30am - 3:00pm with approximately 30 minutes of paid planning and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Commit to attending 3 weeks of paid Professional Development during the Summer and School Year

Requirements

  • Two years of college study, an associate’s degree or met quality standards and passed an assessment.
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school aged children.
  • Flexibility: Paraprofessionals may be asked to support different areas of our special education department, at any time in the year, depending on situations and needs.
  • Scholar First Attitude: We prioritize scholars to ensure their needs are being met, minutes are being served, and that they feel safe, supported, and successful at our school.
  • Collaboration: Paraprofessionals will work with both Scholar Supports and General Education teachers to best serve scholars.

Nice To Haves

  • An RBT certification is recommended, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare visual supports, token boards, and any other scholar materials to be used in the general education and pull-out settings.
  • Gather relevant information and data while working with scholars to provide feedback for teachers.
  • Share relevant information about performance and behavior of individual scholars with relevant staff (case managers, teachers).
  • Review and reinforce learning activities using lesson plans and learning strategies developed by the teacher/team.
  • With interventionists/case manager direction, adapt strategies to accommodate scholar needs.
  • Differentiate work as directed by IEP in order to help scholars access general education curriculum.
  • Carry out work within developed structures, including FBA/BIPs, and other plans with consistency.
  • Facilitate scholar learning individually and in small groups to lead or reteach lessons.
  • Implement FBA/BIPs as designed and modeled

  • Provide testing accommodations individually or to small groups of scholars for unit assessments, Interim Assessments and in some cases, state tests.
  • Collect data, monitor and report to stakeholders on the implementation of the Individualized Education Program.

  • Collaborate with teachers and case managers to help create reports and communication to families about specific scholars they work with.
  • Attend IEP meetings and planning meetings.
