What does a Regional System Operator do for us? This individual creates and directs Issues switching orders involving the distribution system as it pertains to distribution and sub-transmission lines and substations to facilitate maintenance or restoration of power. The role requires using the Outage Management System (OMS) and SCADA to identify and resolve outages and service events. This individual maintains dispatching logs showing all switching and abnormal operating conditions of the distribution power system in our OMS model. Additionally, they operate distribution and Sub Transmission substations using OMS and SCADA system. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of: IPC dispatching and the IPC electrical distribution system Operation of SCADA and OMS Skills in: Mathematics, calculators, computers Reading feeder maps Proper telephone and dispatch radio protocol Preferred: Reading and understanding distribution feeder maps, transmission single lines and substation switching diagrams Following schematics in a digital format Ability to: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Calculate line and feeder load Identify power switching locations and alternate routes for power Work well under pressure Control emotions in emergency situations Work closely with others Spend entire shift within confines of Dispatch area Work rotating shifts to provide 24-hour coverage 7 days/week Preferred: Multi-task under stressful situations and make independent decisions bases on the evaluation of all available information MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Regional System Operator: Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: 4 years of experience in utility trades (such as lines, stations, mobile workforce, generation system operations) OR 2 years Electrical Utility dispatch operator experience OR An equivalent combination of experience and training Preferred: Experience in the operation of the electrical distribution system and the use of company computer systems and software such as Exchange, Outlook, Word, Excel, Passport, OMS and CLRIS Senior Regional System Operator: Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: 5 years of experience in the operation of the electrical distribution system and/or Utility trades such as Lines, Substations, Mobile Workforce OR An equivalent combination of experience and training Preferred: Field experience as a lineman, troubleman, dispatch operator or stations technician Experience in the use of computer systems such as AutoCad, OMS and SCADA, EMS, Fieldsmart, ARC FM, PI, and a variety of GIS based Viewer applications PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people.
