About The Position

We're expanding our leadership team on Regional Strike and looking for people who want to lead from the front. This role puts you at the intersection of software development and systems thinking, owning the product direction for a team of 6-7 engineers working across combat system software. This isn't a clipboard-and-meetings role. You'll be embedded with your team at the story level, shaping what gets built and why. You'll need to understand the software, talk to the engineers in their language, and connect their work to the bigger systems picture. If you've been an engineer wondering what the chief engineer path looks like, this is the on-ramp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Understand the software
  • Talk to the engineers in their language
  • Connect their work to the bigger systems picture

Nice To Haves

  • Systems mindset with ambitions toward a chief engineer career path
  • Ability to understand, read, or write software
  • Experience translating between engineering disciplines and communicating across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of thinking beyond your own workstream to see the bigger system
  • Team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others

Responsibilities

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog for a software team, ensuring alignment with Regional Strike program objectives
  • Translate system-level requirements into actionable work items with aligned acceptance criteria
  • Work directly with developers at the story level, reviewing work, clarifying intent, and removing ambiguity
  • Coordinate across workstreams to manage dependencies and integration points
  • Represent the team's product direction to program leadership and stakeholders
  • Contribute to systems engineering artifacts and technical decisions with a software-informed perspective
  • Contribute technically to the team's work when not focused on product direction. This is a hands-on role, not a full-time management position

Benefits

  • An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
  • Research oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security
  • Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)
