About The Position

This position involves specialized work in recreation and leisure services, performing activities of average difficulty at an assigned recreation area. Under general supervision, the employee leads, supervises, and officiates various sports, games, and programs. The role also includes assisting with administrative procedures for designing and conducting recreation programs. The specialist may be responsible for a City of Orlando-wide program and might work across several centers. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in planning and conducting playground or center activities for all ages. Work is reviewed by a Regional Center Supervisor through periodic observation and submitted reports. The role involves outdoor work, exposing the employee to weather conditions including heat, and requires working at night and on weekends. This position is distinct from a regular Recreation Specialist as it is assigned to a regional center and the employee serves as an assistant supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
  • Two (2) years experience in organized recreation, leisure services, school-based or youth development program experience
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required at the time of application
  • Polygraph and criminal background check required
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed in the position description
