General position summary: The Regional Manager will direct and coordinate activities of the operations department through financially sound decisions while obtaining optimum quality through efficient use of equipment, facilities, and personnel by performing the required duties personally or through subordinates. The Regional Manager will support and participate in the development and management of the Government Services Domestic Operations team for The Suddath Companies. This role will partner with business leaders, managers, and employees to execute and manage the department development and constantly applying new ways to improve processes. This role reports to the Director of Domestic Operations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn and effectively use software applications such as move management, accounting/billing, HRIS, timekeeping and other applications used in the performance of job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a manager with proven leadership ability preferred.
  • Prior experience in the moving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct all management of the Operations team in daily activities
  • Helps define and maintain service performance standards for the Operations team and enables the team to meet or exceed those standards
  • Documents processes to ensure efficiencies for the department and oversee the design and development of training supporting the processes
  • Review and analyze costs of routing i.e., loose loads, crated shipments, third party services for optimum profitability
  • Participate in job costing to secure profitable business opportunities
  • Actively recruits, manages, trains, mentors, and inspires the Operations team to create a culture of excellence
  • Documents and counsel employees as necessary
  • Develops coaching plans for individual performance improvement needs
  • Develop and maintain working relationship with all members of the SGS team, partners, haulers, agents and other service providers
  • Research into the cause of shipper, base, or service providers complaints, punitive action, and base request; respond, report, and resolve appropriately
  • Keep abreast of Industry news and SDDC regulations
  • Monitor systems to find ways to use technology to streamline processes and improve efficiencies
  • Directly supervises multiple employees in the Operations department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
