About The Position

The Regional Middle Market Segment Head is a senior leadership role accountable for shaping strategy, driving growth, and ensuring execution across the Middle Market segment in defined markets. This role leads through influence, partnering with Regional Market leaders to align priorities, foster collaboration, and deliver consistent client experience. Rather than direct reporting authority, success is achieved through strategy, coaching, disciplined operating rigors, and inspiring leaders to execute the Middle Market strategy and achieve performance objectives. The Segment Head serves as a key member of the Regional Commercial Banking leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Regional Banking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 12+ years in commercial banking with a focus on Middle Market clients.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles influencing multi-market or regional teams without direct authority.
  • Proven ability to drive strategic execution and business growth through collaboration and influence.
  • Strong strategic thinking, negotiation, and relationship management capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of credit, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, build consensus, and align diverse teams toward common goals.
  • Skilled in leading through change and managing complex organizational dynamics.
  • Excellent relationship building/interpersonal skills, written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Position requires the ability to establish self as a leader, to not only perform in a leadership role, but to also be recognized by others as a leader.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with the ability to interact well, and in a positive manner, with senior management and internal partners.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and be flexible.
  • Formal credit training and underwriting experience preferred; ability to analyze complex financial data.
  • Strong track record of coaching and developing talent.
  • PC proficient in Windows based software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Influence Champion the Middle Market strategy across markets, ensuring alignment with national objectives and regional priorities. Influence senior leaders to adopt best practices, execute playbooks, and deliver on growth and profitability goals. Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader, driving collaboration and accountability within a matrix operating structure.
  • Business Development & Market Coverage Guide market leaders in portfolio segmentation and client acquisition strategies for businesses in the $20MM–$500MM revenue range. Promote disciplined business planning and execution to expand market share and deepen client relationships. Identify and evaluate strategic growth opportunities.
  • Talent Development & Coaching Mentor Senior Leaders and Relationship Managers through influence, providing strategic direction and development support. Partner with HR and leadership teams to identify, attract, and retain top talent across markets.
  • Credit & Risk Partnership Collaborate with Risk leadership to maintain asset quality and ensure adherence to risk appetite and regulatory standards. Serve as an escalation resource for complex credit structures, offering guidance and expertise. Serve as line of business credit approver and deal elevation adjudication point.
  • Operational Excellence Drive adoption of standardized tools, processes, and performance metrics across markets. Influence operational improvements and compliance adherence through partnership and shared accountability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Build strong relationships with product specialists, treasury, capital markets, and One Bank partners to deliver holistic solutions. Represent the region in national forums, contributing to strategic initiatives and thought leadership. Collaborate with the Finance to design and execute the segment’s growth strategy and financial plan.
