Barrick has an opening for the Regional Manager, Resource Geology. The Regional Manager, Resource Geology is accountable for the geological integrity, Mineral Resource stewardship, and value optimization of multiple operating mines and development projects within the region. This role provides technical governance over resource estimation, grade control strategy, reconciliation performance, and geological risk management, ensuring compliance with applicable reporting codes (e.g., S-K 1300, NI 43-101, JORC). The position integrates geology with mine planning, geotechnical engineering, metallurgy, and exploration to maximize resource conversion, minimize dilution, and improve reserve confidence. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Professional Geologist (PG), P.Geo., or Qualified Persons preferred.
  • Qualified Person (QP) eligibility under relevant reporting standards strongly preferred.
  • 12–15+ years of progressive experience in resource geology within mining.
  • Minimum 5 years in leadership or multi-site technical oversight role.
  • Ability to coach and mentor modelers with advanced geostatistics and champion best-practice resource workflows required.
  • Extensive experience in mining and resource geology and estimation, including managerial roles in mining geology and/or mineral exploration required.
  • Expert knowledge in practical resource estimation, applied mining geology, 3D geological modeling domaining, as well as a strong geostatistical foundation required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in 3D modelling, database, and other relevant mining software packages (e.g. Vulcan, Leapfrog, AcQuire, Excel) required.
  • Basic knowledge of mineral processing and extraction methods preferred.
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience in drilling, sampling and assaying methods as well as QAQC procedures as applied to drilling, sampling and assaying preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in resource estimation oversight and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to be a Competent / Qualified person as defined by SK-1300 and NI 43-101 standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mineral Resource Governance Establish and enforce regional standards for: Geological interpretation and domaining.
  • Drill spacing strategies and infill programs.
  • Resource classification criteria (Measured, Indicated, Inferred).
  • Cut-off grade assumptions and economic parameters (in coordination with planning).
  • Own and ensure compliance to Barrick and site standards and guidelines for resource estimation.
  • Own the timely delivery of resource models to agreed dates with stakeholders by coordinating with key management personnel.
  • Review and approve site-level Mineral Resource estimates.
  • Ensure defensible documentation and audit-ready technical reports.
  • Escalate material changes, risks or opportunities to the GM’s and regional management as you discover them.
  • Oversee independent reviews and Qualified Person (QP) sign-offs.
  • Resource Development & Conversion Drive resource-to-reserve conversion strategies.
  • Optimize infill drilling to reduce geological uncertainty and improve confidence categories.
  • Identify geological upside opportunities within existing mine footprints.
  • Provide geological input into life-of-mine (LOM) planning and pit/underground optimization studies.
  • Grade Control & Reconciliation Establish regional grade control standards and sampling protocols.
  • Oversee reconciliation between: Resource model vs. grade control model.
  • Mined grades vs. predicted grades.
  • Mill head grades vs. resource estimates.
  • Analyze sources of variance (sampling bias, domaining errors, density assignment, short-range variability).
  • Implement corrective actions to improve predictability and reduce risk.
  • Data Quality & QA/QC Ensure robust QA/QC programs including standards, blanks, duplicates, and umpire assays.
  • Oversee drillhole database governance and validation protocols.
  • Standardize data management systems and audit trails across sites.
  • Ensure compliance with chain-of-custody and laboratory quality standards.
  • Technical Leadership Mentor and develop site-level resource and grade control geologists.
  • Build regional capability in structural geology, geostatistics, and economic geology.
  • Provide technical oversight for complex orebody interpretations (structurally controlled systems, vein-hosted deposits, stratiform systems, porphyry environments, etc.).
  • Own and drive continuous improvement towards best-practice modeling and resource estimation workflows.
  • Engage external consultants where specialized expertise is required.
  • Strategic Planning & Due Diligence Prioritize a strategic delivery pipeline of projects to feed annual business plans and evaluations.
  • Own alignment with District MRMs and Superintendent, Resource Geology to mutually determine modeling priorities that are fit-for-purpose to business requirements Support scoping, PFS, and FS studies with defensible geological models.
  • Participate in acquisition and divestiture technical due diligence.
  • Evaluate geological risk profiles for development-stage assets.
  • Identify exploration targets adjacent to operating mines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Coordinate with: Geological Modeling teams for estimation methodology alignment.
  • Mine Planning for dilution control and sequencing strategies.
  • Geotechnical Engineering for structural model integration.
  • Metallurgy for geometallurgical domain definition and recovery forecasting.
  • Operations to ensure practical implementation of geological controls.
