About The Position

ASARCO LLC is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest Copper producers, Grupo Mexico, and ranks third in the United States in Copper production. ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refiner of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning across five mine sites in Arizona and Texas. We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico.

Requirements

  • Must be able to accurately identify and describe rocks and minerals.
  • Must understand porphyry copper deposits and alteration types.
  • Must be proficient at reading geologic maps in the selection and plan views.
  • Must understand the basics of process types and material types in a mine environment.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in stressful environments.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
  • Must have time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.
  • Must have the aptitude for software proficiency.
  • Able to withstand frequent sitting, standing, walking and exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.
  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
  • Must be majoring in Economic Geology, Geology, or closely related discipline.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Candidates must possess a current and valid driver's license.
  • Offers of employment are contingent upon a successful criminal background check and pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Mine Geologists in daily office and field duties.
  • Assist with pit highwall mapping.
  • Assist with blasthole chip logging.
  • Digital data entry into database.
  • Assist in field operations.
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
