The Regional HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting school success by providing expert HR guidance and responsive service to leaders across multiple campuses. Reporting to the Director of HR Client Services, the HRBP serves as the primary HR contact for a designated region, ensuring legal compliance, managing sensitive employee relations issues, and supporting performance, leave, and talent initiatives with care and precision. This is a full-time, hybrid position (Monday–Friday) that helps school leaders build strong teams and positive workplace cultures, directly contributing to the broader mission of changing lives through education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations, performance management, and coaching.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a multi-site, regional, or field-based HR role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multi-state employment laws and HR compliance.
  • Experience managing the full cycle of employee leave processes (FMLA, ADA, workers’ comp, and state-specific programs).
  • Strong client-service orientation with the ability to influence and advise leaders independently.

Nice To Haves

  • HR experience in K–12 education, charter schools, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).
  • Experience serving as a strategic HR business partner to senior operational or school leadership.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic HR Partnership: Serve as the primary HR advisor to Principals, School Leaders, and regional operations teams. Conduct quarterly HR business reviews, highlighting workforce trends, people metrics, and compliance risks. Collaborate with internal HR Centers of Expertise (Talent, HR Ops, Compensation, Employee Relations) to meet regional needs. Deliver consistent, high-touch service aligned with Vertex HR’s client-service standards.
  • Employee Relations & Workplace Culture: Lead and resolve employee relations matters through coaching, conflict resolution, and formal investigations. Document and manage investigations in accordance with legal requirements and internal protocols. Guide school leaders in corrective action, disciplinary decisions, and policy interpretation. Foster a positive, compliant, and respectful workplace culture across assigned campuses.
  • Performance, Talent & Succession: Support leaders in managing employee performance, including coaching, feedback, and performance plans. Participate in talent review and succession planning discussions to support leadership development. Maintain strong visibility into school-level staffing needs and talent risks. Advise leaders on documentation and process alignment for performance management.
  • Multi-State HR Compliance & Leave Management: Manage the full cycle of employee leaves, including FMLA, ADA, workers’ comp, and state-specific leave programs. Provide guidance on complex compliance issues across multiple states and jurisdictions. Monitor and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws. Proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks related to HR practices.
  • HR Program Implementation & Regional Support: Lead or support campus-level implementation of HR programs, trainings, and strategic initiatives. Ensure accurate position management and headcount alignment in partnership with academic and operational leaders. Contribute to compensation research and support related proposals as needed. Facilitate teacher contract renewals and employee engagement processes across the region.
