About The Position

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist to join our experienced and energetic team of regional providers as an inpatient pediatric specialist at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. Hospitalists working at St. Rita’s Medical Center are employees of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. St. Rita’s Medical Center with a staff of 3,000 employees, physicians and volunteers, was designated by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a 4 Star Hospital in 2024. The pediatric unit of St. Rita’s Medical Center includes an 18-bed inpatient pediatric unit, an 18-bed Level II Special Care Nursery and a Mother-child well baby unit. Responsibilities of the Pediatric Hospitalist include attendance at high-risk deliveries & C-sections, admissions, and daily rounding on Special Care Nursery (level II), and well-baby (mother/infant) units. Daily rounding on pediatric inpatient unit and general pediatric Emergency Department consultations for admissions and/or transfers. Shifts for the Pediatric Hospitalist are 24-hour in-house coverage. Qualified candidates must be board certified/ board eligible in Pediatrics, NRP & PALS certified, patient-centered and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in pediatric care. Certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine is not required.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine equivalent, required
  • Graduate of an approved Fellowship program if applicable, required
  • Medical License in the State of Ohio, required
  • Unrestricted licensed physician, required
  • Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, required
  • NRP & PALS certified
  • Patient-centered
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in pediatric care
  • Prior clinical practice experience may be required based on the needs of the division

Responsibilities

  • Attendance at high-risk deliveries & C-sections
  • Admissions
  • Daily rounding on Special Care Nursery (level II), and well-baby (mother/infant) units
  • Daily rounding on pediatric inpatient unit and general pediatric Emergency Department consultations for admissions and/or transfers
  • Conducts patient assessments and diagnoses medical conditions
  • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients in accordance with established protocols
  • Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment
  • Communicates with patients and their families to provide education and support
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals
  • Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, and fellows as required
  • Stays up-to-date with medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care
