About The Position

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking a Regional Environmental Manager in the Environmental & Natural Resources division at our Gainesville, FL office location. This position will be responsible for managing and growing our environmental resources team in Florida and throughout the Southeast. This role is a technical discipline manager or manager of multiple market practice areas and coordinates work with project managers to assign technical resources on projects in a manner that positively impacts the business and employee experience. This role is responsible for ensuring direct reports' utilization and billable rates are acceptable. Work at this level is characterized also by working on projects with some complex features or portions of larger conventional projects. This role functions as a Senior Scientist on projects as well as the technical discipline manager or manager of multiple practice areas. This position will report to the Director of Environmental & Natural Resources (ENR) and will be highly visible in a company that prefers to promote from within whenever possible. The optimal candidate will help develop this department with excellent staff management, communication, organizational, and technical skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field such as biology, ecology, environmental science/policy, environmental engineering, natural resources, or a closely related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Five-plus years of experience in staff management is preferred.
  • Ten-plus years of experience in technical writing and field efforts including environmental permitting and mitigation banking/restoration projects in the Southeast.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced-collaborative team atmosphere with an established group of engineers, scientists, and administrative staff.
  • Light travel (25-50%) is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no recent accidents, DUIs, or major traffic violations).
  • Walk, sit, and stand. Occasionally reach with hands, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Occasionally climb 25-30 feet. Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Visual acuity sufficient to read alpha/ numeric symbols for computation and design.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Senior level leadership and review.
  • Effectively manage and schedule multiple staff in several locations across the Southeast while collaborating with peers in other states across Barge's footprint.
  • Coordinate staff and assign tasks to meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Support and grow a multidisciplinary team to provide environmental services including but not limited to environmental permitting, wetland mitigation banking, species banking, water quality project design and implementation, energy sector projects, DOT sector projects, coastal resiliency, land management, wetland delineations and jurisdictional determinations, and habitat assessments.
  • Manage and adjust staff scheduling to meet ENR Center's billable rate goals.
  • Efficiently identify issues and problem-solve to avoid delays.
  • Mentor staff and promote culture of high expectations of quality deliverables, safety, accountability, and a positive and energetic working environment.
  • Prepare technical reports and other environmental regulatory compliance documents.
  • Provide final technical review of reports, permit application documents, and databases.
  • Manage local subcontractors on large projects where local teaming is required.
  • Assist with the development of proposal scope and fees.
  • Collaborate with project managers to facilitate project completion including client communication, staff/equipment management, budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Director and team to recruit, onboard, and professionally develop future staff.
  • Work to reduce department projects costs to drive competitive status.
  • Develop and build positive relationships with clients, direct reports, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Manage staffing resources to complete current and future workloads across the Southeast with a focus in Florida.
  • People Skills: Manage a team of employees. Provide talent management responsibilities for a group of individuals including but not limited to selection, development, and coaching for improvement. May recommend terminations/separations. Mentor other professionals.
