Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong experience in safety management systems, risk assessments, and accident investigation processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS management system software.
  • An undergraduate degree in occupational safety, environmental science, public health, or industrial or safety engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of EHS experience.
  • Expected to wear safety boots, safety glasses, reflective vests, and hard hats when required.

Nice To Haves

  • ISO 14001 and 45001 experience desired.
  • An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Professional safety certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour, NEBOSH General, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, coaching, and subject matter expertise on all EHS activities to the regional operational leaders.
  • Lead the strategic planning and tactical execution of EHS and security programs to deliver on critical safety, health, and environmental commitments.
  • Implement and drive continuous improvement in injury prevention, hazard control, and environmental impact reduction through risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and action plans.
  • Lead and manage incident investigations, ensuring timely identification of root causes and execution of corrective actions.
  • Drive alignment with Xylem’s global EHS strategy, supporting the development of site-specific goals and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international safety and environmental regulations, Xylem’s policies, and consensus standards.
  • Partner with leadership teams across levels and functions to embed EHS principles into everyday operations and decision-making.
  • Lead efforts and collaborate with the site teams to minimize their environmental footprint and achieve sustainability targets, focusing on reducing waste-to-landfill, water intensity, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Track and report on the results of risk assessments, identified hazards, industrial hygiene results, sustainability metrics (waste, water, and energy reductions), and countermeasures to resolve risks.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and third parties, facilitating audits, inspections, and necessary actions to maintain compliance.
  • Ensuring that corrective action items are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement, fostering cross-functional collaboration to enhance EHS practices and institute loss prevention, loss control, and countermeasures.
  • Partner with operations to develop and distribute communications addressing incidents, near misses, lessons learned, and safety alerts.
  • Analyze and monitor key EHS metrics to assess program effectiveness and provide senior management feedback on performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Manage dotted line reports with their personal and technical development while driving accountability.
  • Conduct routine site visits to provide in-person support and assistance.
  • Assist regional branches with the coordination, development, and delivery of EHS training and education programs and ensure 100% completion of EHS training for all employees, incorporating a combination of CBT (computer-based training) and in-person sessions.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental inspections, including air, water, and waste regulatory audits, and ensure cradle-to-grave compliance for waste management.
  • Manage contractor safety programs to ensure compliance with Xylem's safety standards and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Lead risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, and safety audits and oversee their reviews, prioritizing actions for injury prevention.
  • Oversee incident response, serving as the Incident Commander in the event of hazardous material spills or other emergencies.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping of safety and environmental data, including regulatory logs, accident reports, and performance metrics through EHS management systems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on accident investigations, facilitating learning opportunities and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Assist with maintaining site-specific safety-related permits and ensuring operational compliance with air monitoring standards.
  • Oversee and drive initiatives related to Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Occupational Health Monitoring.
