About The Position

The Regional Development Coordinator is the frontline ambassador for New Mexico Youth and Government in Southern New Mexico (with limited responsibilities in Central New Mexico). New Mexico Youth and Government (NMYAG) is a civic education and engagement program for youth in grades 6–12 that develops personal growth and encourages life-long, responsible citizenship. Through hands-on participation in a model government, students learn the democratic process, practice critical thinking, engage in debate, and gain skills in leadership and collaboration. The YMCA of Central New Mexico has been awarded a grant to expand Youth and Government in New Mexico. We are seeking a Regional Development Coordinator to lead outreach and recruitment in Southern New Mexico, support regional schools in launching delegations, and run a YMCA-led virtual delegation for students without a school-based program.

Requirements

  • Experience with the YMCA Youth and Government program.
  • Strong interest in youth leadership, civic engagement, and education.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with teens, schools, or community organizations preferred.
  • Comfort with technology and virtual facilitation (Zoom, Google Workspace, etc.).
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel primarily within Southern New Mexico (with occasional travel to Central New Mexico).
  • Must attend New Mexico Youth and Government state events, including the State Conference (April 2026) and Middle School Conference (October 2026).
  • Commitment Part-time, approximately 10 hours/week, January–October 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting existing delegations and building new ones in the Southern NM region; serving as a liaison for delegations in the region to the state office.
  • Supporting content development that will enable advisors and students to be successful in the program.
  • Recruiting new student participants and advisors.
  • Running an online/virtual delegation for students whose schools do not yet offer the program.
  • Serving as a liaison between students, teachers, parents, and the YMCA.
  • Assisting with regional civic engagement events and state-level program activities.
  • Collecting pre- and post-program surveys using Hello Insight to measure impact.
  • Providing critical feedback to the State Director and YMCA staff to strengthen and sustain program delivery.
  • Attend program events such as Orientation, Trainings, YAGreat Night, prep days, state conferences, and leadership development workshops/retreat and support the state office.
